The conference took place in the Aula Magna of the University of Zadar. About twenty scholars from different countries such as Croatia, Albania, the Vatican, Italy, Russia, Spain and Germany in their lectures focused on linguistic, literary, historical, social and anthropological topics revolving around relationships among cultures and peoples in South-Eastern Europe.

The town of Zadar was chosen as a venue of the scientific conference because of the historical bonds between this town by the Adriatic Sea and the Albanian community which has lived here for the past three centuries.

The conference, on its last day, was also attended by the Deputy Premier and Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia Mr Davor Božinović; the Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Albania Mr Sandër Lleshaj; the State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior of Croatia Mrs Terezija Gras and the Ambassador of the Republic of Albania to Croatia his Excellency Mr Riza Poda. The host of the meeting was the Pre-rector of the University of Zadar, prof. Nedjeljka Balić-Nižić.

The purpose of such meeting was to promote scientific research in Balkan Studies and simultaneously emphasise the deep historical and cultural relations between Croatian and Albanian peoples.

In the statement for the media which followed, the Minister of the Interior of Albania Mr Sandër Lleshaj underlined the extraordinary relations of the two countries, especially in the field of public order.

On this occasion, the Deputy Premier of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and Minister of the Interior Mr Davor Božinović emphasised “the results obtained in virtue of the agreement for strategic cooperation which was signed between our two governments, but also according to the friendly relationships of the two peoples and countries”.

The conference followed in the footsteps of the previous scientific meetings which were held in October 2015, in the Vatican City and in 2017, in Tirana. The proceedings of the first conference were published in the collection by the title Albania nell’Archivio di Propaganda Fide, whereas the proceedings of the second meeting were published in the issues 3-4/2017 of the journal Shejzat-Pleiades.
